A day out with Thomas

Today Nile and I went with our friends to Boone to "A day out with Thomas". I got a babysitter for Emmy and had a fun day with Nile.

Nile was really cheesing it up for the camera man.... I was trying to not get the camera guy in my picutre, but he was right in the way (hence the crooked photo)
Nile and his friend Jaxon waiting to board
Nile was yelling "all aboard!" over and over

Nile got in trouble (or maybe I got in trouble) for haning out the window of the train.

There is Ashton Kutcher at the hawkeye game.... not a great pic of him, I bet he would love it.

September 11, 2011

(I got this beautiful photo from Ree Drummonds blog, she took it on her phone)
10 Years have really gone by?  It doesn't seem like the attacks on the United States were that long ago.  Where were you that day?  I was at Kirkwood, heading to class when I saw a huge crowd in the vending area that had tables and TVs.  The first plane had already crashed into the first tower.  I kept watching, then went to class thinking we would watch in there.... to my surprise my teacher said "don't think we are going to watch the TV today, we are going to keep having class" I got up and walked out.  I talked to my mom on the phone while I drove home and she told me what was happening and then I spent the entire day watching TV.
After we moved I was putting everything back into my cedar chest and I still have all the news papers and magazines from 10 years ago about Sept 11, 2001.  I have a sober feeling today, watching the people on TV who have lost family members.  I am proud of our country and our Troops for everything they have done to serve and protect us.  I am proud of Ben for serving in the war, he won a medal while he was there.  I am proud of my brother in law Matt who is still serving as a marine and of his family who moves around supporting him.  And I am proud of my baby brother, Jason who just joined the Air Force.
We all wore patriotic clothing today at church ( I think one other person was wearing a USA shirt).  The pastor talked a bit about 9/11.  But I knew that back at home, mom surely would have sang some patriotic songs and dad would have had more patriotic and politically things to say.  And that's the way it should be.
"(T)he foundation of our national policy will be laid in the pure and immutable principles of private morality; ...the propitious smiles of Heaven can never be expected on a nation that disregards the eternal rules of order and right which Heaven itself has ordained..."  George Washington,

Emmy made the paper!

Emmy made it on the front page of the paper!! I was a little dissapointed to see the picture though, the photographer took several and she was in an excellent mood at this event so maybe he should have given me the camera! oh well :-)

I got these tiny pig tails in without her really noticing, however when she realized they were there she was TICKED off and ripped them out!

Yep, I chose to take a pic instead of stopping her from eating this popcicle off the ground
